Do you want Groupon Tracking You?

Recently groupon has stated that they were going to be tracking consumers who owned the groupon app on their mobile devices, even if the consumer was not connected to the app. Recently, groupon executives had to answer to congress as to what the reason for these constant tracking devices on consumers, especially those which are not connected, and the company responded stating that consumers were looking for more deals, at all times, making savings more automatic for customers. If the tracking is used, the company can send the consumer a discount for any location they are in, and the process is much more instantaneous, and requires less work to be done by the consumer, in order to find the savings.

So, even when you are not connected to the app, you are going to be able to save. This will allow consumers to get deals anytime, anywhere, and without having to find the deals themselves. At least this is what the CEO of the Groupon company has stated to congress, as the major reason they want to use the tracking device on consumers. Of course it will increase the company’s revenues. They will be getting more sales if they are able to use this tracking of consumers around the clock, and in some cases, can even automatically bill the consumer for the discount if they use it.

So, if you are one of those consumers who are asking for more deals, and don’t want to have to seek them out yourself, this idea of the on going tracking may be something which you will not mind, if congress allows the company to do. But, in some cases, it can be viewed as an invasion of privacy. If you are not logged onto the Groupon app, is it really right for the company to be tracking your every move, knowing where you are, and constantly sending you messages to find a deal at every location or every retailer you may visit during the day.

This is the major dilemma being faced by Groupon, and by the members in congress who are debating whether or not to allow the constant tracking of those who have the groupon app downloaded onto their phone and their wireless mobile devices. It can be a good thing for consumers always wanting the deal, no matter what. But, some people don’t want this tracking, and feel that if they are not logged onto the groupon app, that they should not be being tracked by the company, and being sent these constant updates on where to get savings, every single minute of their day, even if they are not asking for the savings.

So, whether congress will allow the tracking is still up for debates. But, if you want constant savings, this might be something you hope gets passed by the members of congress.
